What is auto insurance?
Auto insurance helps you to protect you and your family against financial damage in the event of an accident or other cause of loss. It covers the injuries and damages caused by an accident, for which you are legally responsible. It may also cover the costs of repairing or replacing your vehicle if it is damaged or stolen.
What happens if I don’t want insurance?
In the state of Utah, you’re required to carry a minimum amount of liability insurance (25/65/15), and also provide proof of your insurance before you can register your vehicle. If you are caught driving without car insurance, you may have to pay a large fine, have your driver’s license suspended, and/or have your car impounded.
Legalities aside, having other drivers on the road is the biggest reason to properly insure your vehicle. Without insurance, you could find yourself paying for damage caused by another driver, paying to rent a car while yours is in the shop, or be stuck without the means to replace a totaled vehicle.
For all these reasons and more, auto insurance isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity.
How much coverage do I need?
In the state of Utah, vehicles are required to carry a minimum amount of insurance (25/65/15), but this legal minimum may not be enough coverage for you, depending on your driving habits, how many cars you’d like to cover, and what type of vehicle(s) you have. The legally responsible driver in any accident is required to pay for all the damages that result from the accident, regardless of insurance coverage. It is often beneficial to speak with an agent regarding the amount of coverage that is right for you.
What does 25/65/15 Mean?
This is shorthand for the minimum amount of insurance that is required by Utah State law. It means the amount drivers are required to carry is $25,000 per person and $65,000 for two or more persons for bodily injury liability, and $15,000 for property damage liability.

What are my options?
Farmers Flex provides you with a new set of options and features to help you prepare for the unexpected. You can select Accident Forgiveness in addition to your regular policy coverage and the optional New Car Pledge package, both designed to help you save.
- Accident Forgiveness:You’re a good driver and haven’t been in an accident for years, but now you have a claim. Farmers will forgive one accident in a three year period.
- New Car Pledge:You’ve just invested a lot of your hard earned money in a new car, and losing it would be a major loss. That’s why Farmers will replace your new vehicle without depreciation in the event of a total loss in the first two years (24,000 miles) of ownership. Also, if minor repairs are needed, we’ll make sure only original manufacturer parts are used if available.
Personal Umbrella Insurance
In addition to required liability coverage, you may elect to purchase a personal liability umbrella policy. Umbrella policies act like an umbrella and supplement the liability coverage you already have on your auto and homeowners policies, providing an extra layer of coverage. It is used for catastrophic losses or when primary liability insurance is exhausted. (Your auto policy must have certain limits in order for you to qualify for an umbrella policy).
Emergency Roadside Assistance (Automatically Included)
The Farmers Tow Program (FARMTOW) provides 24/7 access to roadside assistance through Farmers Help point®. Not only does this program provide towing to the nearest qualified repair facility, but it also offers locksmith services, battery “jump start”, and other repairs performed right where your vehicle breaks down. In most cases, Farmers will be billed directly for this service.
Windshield Glass Repair Service
FASGLAS® , Farmers Glass Program, is a national program with over 12,000 participating independently owned and operated glass shops that provide timely and professional auto and home glass replacement and repair services.
Upon contacting Farmers Help Point® (800-435-7764) you will be given an explanation of the program and then you can decide whether or not you want to select a FASGLAS® program shop or use a shop of your own choosing. If you choose FASGLAS® Farmers will then link you directly with a FASGLAS® vendor who will arrange to provide repairs at one of their local glass shops or send a qualified glass replacement/repair technician directly to your home or work, whichever is convenient for you. You pay only your deductible. The remainder is billed directly to Farmers.
Customers participating in this program receive a warranty from the glass service provider. Farmers will stand behind the warranty offered by the glass service provider if you’re not satisfied with the quality of work performed.
Car Rental Reimbursement
Farmers Auto Rental Service is a program that quickly provides a rental vehicle for your use after an accident. This network of pre-screened, nationally-known rental car companies provide free pickup and delivery, direct billing to Farmers and an automatic deposit waiver (deposit waiver is not available in all areas). Auto Rental Service provides service for customers and other parties in an accident for which we have accepted responsibility.
Extended Customized Equipment Coverage
Farmers can also provide coverage for optional equipment not permanently installed in the dash of your car, and for theft of items such as tapes, discs or other equipment designed for the reproduction of sound. If you’re thinking about adding equipment to your present vehicle, contact your local Farmers agent.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Uninsured Motorist coverage covers you, insured members of your household and your passengers in an accident with a motorist who has no insurance or is underinsured. It also provides coverage if you’re hit by a hit-and-run driver and applies to you and the insured members of your household, even as pedestrians. Coverage includes payment of medical costs, lost wages and pain and suffering. It is required in many states. This coverage typically covers any difference between what the other at fault driver’s insurance covers and the costs of your bodily injuries, up to the limits of the policy.
